Hate Speech and Symbols Drawn On Her Pup’s Fur…

Last week a photo of a puppy rescued from the Springfield, Missouri area went viral after the puppy was rescued by authorities in truly shocking condition. She was shaved down to her skin and had red swastikas drawn all over her body. She also had the message “Do not feed this (explicit language) dog” written on her. We are seldom at a loss for words but we were when we came across this family's story.

A rescue in Missouri was able to provide care for the puppy, now named Leslie, by removing the markings and then they found her a great, adoptive home. But her mom, Brexley, remained in need. As if she had not been through enough in her short life, it was discovered that she was pregnant again! At this point, the group who had her reached out seeking a rescue that could take Brexley in and provide her with a foster home where she could raise her puppies.

Brexley is headed to a loving, Wright-Way Rescue foster home as we type this!

Please donate to help us provide care for her and all of her expected puppies. Each one will need vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, quality nutrition, and expert medical care prior to adoption. The expenses to take on a pregnant momma dog can quickly add up, but we know that Brexley deserves the chance for a brighter future.

We have promised Brexley that this time around she will raise her puppies surrounded by love and kindness. Together we will break the cycle of neglect and abuse she and her previous puppy endured.

Please DONATE TODAY to help us rescue Brexley and her puppies at

In the midst of record setting temperatures in Misissippi, these puppies were abandoned overnight. For TWELVE HOURS these puppies (minus one who managed to escape) waited for help to arrive. They could barely move and had been left with no water. When they were found, they were dehydrated and frightened. It’s a miracle these puppies did not succumb to the heat and lack of water before workers arrived for their morning shift.

Please help us show these puppies that MORE IS POSSIBLE. Our shelter is full and our resources are strained, but these puppies desperately needed something good to happen for them. Help us show them that our belief that MORE IS POSSIBLE for homeless animals is true for them and they will never be left alone, hot, or thirsty again.

They are on their way to our shelter now and will require immediate medical care. Authorities are trying to find who did this to these puppies to hold them responsible. Please donate to help us save them by DONATING TODAY.

Dog Left On Side of Highway

A Good Samaritan noticed several stray dogs on a highway outside of Campbell, Missouri. When she pulled over to investigate, all of the dogs ran away except for one small dog lying in the grass unable to move. It was apparent that he had been struck by a vehicle and was in incredible pain. She contacted her friend, who helps network homeless animals to get them into rescues, and they took the dog to a local veterinarian.

Later that day an urgent message came to Wright-Way Rescue explaining that the dog could only be held at the veterinary clinic for 24 hours before the unfortunate decision to euthanize him would have to be made. The veterinarian had determined that the puppy is only 6 months old and has a severely broken leg that requires extensive orthopedic surgery. The cost of this surgery was far beyond the means of his rescuers and they began the desperate search for a licensed rescue with the ability to save him. The clinic provided him with pain medication to keep him comfortable while they waited for an offer of help.

At the same time that pleas to rescues were going out, the networker and rescuer went door to door and sent out hundreds of “found dog” messages everywhere they knew of in an attempt to find the pup’s owner. Unfortunately, all of these went unanswered.

Once we saw Captain’s face, we couldn't help but say YES! It was just in the nick of time. Surgeries like Captain’s are not possible without YOUR HELP.

Please DONATE to help us fund Captain’s life saving surgery. This adorable, 26 lb pup has his entire life ahead of him, and we know that with your help, it will be a great one!

French Bulldog Puppy With A Broken Heart

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO SAVE THIS FRENCH BULLDOG PUPPY WITH A BROKEN HEART-

Have you heard the phrase “It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog”? We believe this quote was made for puppies like Maytag, who despite all the odds stacked against him, keeps bounding forward with enthusiasm and a wagging tail.

Overcoming hardships with grace is something that rescue dogs seem to accomplish more often than they should have to. Maytag may be small in size, but he has a big heart. Unfortunately, his big heart is also why he needs YOUR HELP!

Maytag began his life in Arkansas. The inexperienced breeder had intended to sell the litter of puppies for a large profit, but when Maytag’s pre-purchase veterinary exam came back with the devastating diagnosis of a very significant heart murmur, the breeder surrendered him.

Maytag just arrived at Wright-Way Rescue. Our staff veterinarians have examined him and reviewed his radiographs. They confirmed the diagnosis of a severe heart murmur but also discovered he has an enlarged liver. Now, a more advanced evaluation and diagnostic testing are urgently needed to determine what can be done to give Maytag the best quality of life possible.

His condition is serious, complicated by his age and growth, and he needs a higher level of care than our staff veterinarians can provide. We have scheduled an appointment at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital on May 20th where a Board Certified Cardiologist will further assess and hopefully provide a surgical option for little Maytag.

As you can imagine, specialty care is extremely expensive. We are asking for your help so we can  get Maytag to the University of Illinois to see the specialist and get some answers regarding possible treatments or if there are any surgical options available.

Please consider a donation today that will help Maytag receive the expert care he needs. https://give-usa.keela.co/WrightWayRescueDonate

Amber was found alone and injured

Amber was found wandering alone with a serious injury running along the entire length of her spine.

unnamed-7.jpg

There wasn’t enough room for her at the shelter in Brownwood, TX, but, instead of turning the poor dog away, a dedicated volunteer offered to take her home.

That’s how rescue goes. It’s a leap of faith that someone, somewhere is going to help.

The injury to Amber’s back appears to be a long burn caused by a radiant heat source, such as the exhaust pipe of a car. At Wright-Way Rescue, we see injuries like this several times a year on dogs who have been found as strays. The only thing our vets can confirm is that the burn is thermal rather than chemical, and that, despite its appearance, it is not a cut or laceration as would be caused by a dog squeezing itself under a fence.

As a rescue working in the most underserved communities of the Rural Midwest, South, and Southeast, we are forever taking leaps of faith. We visit terrible hoarding situations, take on incredible medical cases, and transport thousands of animals to safety every year so that they can have a second chance.

Amber is the sweetest of dogs, but her life was at risk simply because she didn’t have a loving home of her own — not because she didn’t deserve one.

We are so grateful that we get to be that “someone, somewhere” for so many rescue partners. We take many, many leaps of faith in this work, and we could never do it without your help. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Without you, Amber’s transport and medical care would never have been possible. Please give today!
