No Mom Left Behind

The No Mom Left Behind program has been a part of Wright-Way Rescue since we began more than 18 years ago. When Wright-Way commits to a litter of puppies, the mother dog is never left behind regardless of medical condition or special needs.

This program provides care to those dogs who need help the most, with a guarantee to a free spay surgery or admission to our adoption program. No Mom Left Behind saves thousands of lives every year.

Please consider supporting this program that brings help and hope to so many.

NMLB: Gina’s Story

Gina and her owner lived under the old Austin Peay Bridge in Memphis, Tennessee. Even though she was living in squalor and surrounded by trash, it was her safe place. When she became pregnant, her owner took care of her the best he could, and she gave birth to her puppies under the bridge they called home.

Unfortunately, five weeks after her puppies were born, her owner died and Gina was left to care for herself and her puppies without any help. Without her human companion, her bond to her babies became even more important. Sadly, upon learning about Gina and her puppies, another party went to the bridge, took the litter of puppies, and left Gina behind by herself without any water or food.

Upon hearing this, local rescue volunteers worked for days to try to get the shy momma dog, but her mistrust of people was now too great. Gina clung to the familiar, lying on the sleeping bag of her owner, scared to leave the last safe place she knew. The rescuers left food and water for her, and returned each day in an attempt to bring Gina to safety.

Finally, with the help of networking and sharing ideas, one volunteer formed a plan to play a recording of crying puppies in the back of her car. When the sound of the puppies reached her ears, Gina ran to the car at once and then jumped in to find her puppies. With the car door closed gently behind her, Gina accepted the situation, snuggled up to the caring rescuer, and drove away from the bridge forever.

She was taken to a veterinarian where they took two days to conduct her exams, doing their best to not create more stress for her. By now her body was painfully swollen with milk, and she was still nervous while desperately looking for her puppies. The party that had taken her puppies was contacted and begged to let the momma dog and her babies be reunited. They refused, however, and Gina was left to endure the physical and emotional distress alone.

The volunteers at Stray Animal Network reached out to Wright-Way Rescue, telling us Gina’s story and asked for our help. Gina needed a forever home. We immediately agreed, knowing that it would take time for her to recover her confidence and trust, as well as learn how to feel safe while indoors.

We are happy to report that after several months in foster care, Gina found her forever family and was officially ADOPTED!
