Every Mile Is a Promise Kept: Jojo’s Story

When Jojo climbed into a Wright-Way Rescue van in June 2020, she had no way of knowing where it would take her. Everything around her was changing, and she wasn’t sure she could trust this unfamiliar world.

That ride was part of Wright-Way Rescue’s transport program, which reaches animals in rural communities facing seemingly impossible situations and brings them to safety. For Jojo and her five puppies—Jo, Jersey, Jade, Juno, and Journey—it was the beginning of a new life.

Jojo had been rescued from a hoarding situation in Arkansas. At eight years old, she was doing her best to keep her puppies alive and safe while living with heartworm disease herself. She was malnourished and in poor condition when she arrived. She needed treatment, rest, and someone to look after her.

Through our No Mom Left Behind Program, Jojo received that chance alongside her puppies. Our medical team worked to prepare her for adoption, and day by day, she grew stronger and healthier. One by one, her puppies found loving homes. Surrounded by patient care, Jojo began to trust the people looking after her.

Then one day, it was time for another van ride. This time, she would travel from Wright-Way Rescue’s Admissions Center in Southern Illinois to our Adoption Center in Morton Grove. Jojo stepped onto the van hesitantly, trusting that the last ride had brought her somewhere safe.

When she arrived, Jojo met a wonderful woman who would become her best friend. Jojo walked through the adoption doors and into a new life with someone who loved her deeply. For six years, they had each other.

Then, this June, Jojo’s person passed away. Once again, the world Jojo knew changed.

But Jojo still had Wright-Way.

Our commitment to her did not end when she was adopted. We welcomed her back into our care, and a Wright-Way van helped bring her safely back to us.

Think of what those rides meant for Jojo: a way out of a hoarding situation, a journey to the home where she was cherished, and a safe return when she needed us again. Our vans carry animals to medical care and loving families. They also help us keep the lifetime promises we make to them. They literally save lives.

Today, Jojo is looking for a home. She’s housebroken, exceptionally friendly, and the kind of senior gal who seems ready to move right in and make herself part of the family. She’s good with everyone and everything. Most of all, she’s patiently waiting for the day we tell her it’s time to get into a Wright-Way van again—this time, for a ride toward her next loving home.

Jojo is just one dog with one story. Wright-Way Rescue has saved more than 75,000 animals and counting. Each had somewhere they needed to go: away from danger, toward medical care, or into the arms of a family. Our transport vehicles help us make those journeys possible.

We recently acquired a new ProMaster van, and we are just $23,976.59 short of our fundraising goal to pay for it. This vehicle will help us reach animals throughout Illinois and across rural America, bring them safely into our care, and give our volunteer drivers a dependable way to make those lifesaving trips. It will help us keep our promises to animals like Jojo, even when they need us years after their first rescue.

Through our partnership with Modern Woodman, donations toward the van will be matched up to $2,500. Your gift can go twice as far toward the rides that bring animals to safety.

Please give toward the new van and help us be there for the next animal waiting for a ride. And if your home has room for one exceptionally loving senior gal, Jojo is ready and waiting to meet you. 🧡
