Our Mission

Wright-Way Rescue is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

Its mission is to reduce the number of homeless pets euthanized in the Midwest each year through an adoption program, community education, promotion of spaying and neutering, and a veterinary medicine program. It continues to save pets from rural animal control facilities where they are at a high risk of euthanasia, and instead offer them a second chance at a loving home in the Chicagoland area.

How to Adopt

There are two ways to adopt from Wright-Way Rescue.

1. Visit our Adoption Center

One of the ways you can adopt a pet from our shelter is by visiting our North Shore Humane Center (Northern IL) or Admissions and Medical Services Campus (Southern IL) during open hours.

2. Reserve A Pet In Advance

Wright-Way Rescue is unique to many shelters because of it’s ability to hold pets for pre-approved adopters who make arrangements to meet them. Approved applicants who are seriously interested in a particular animal may place them on reserve to meet once they become ready for adoption. There is NO FEE to place a reservation. We do however ask that the potential adopter is serious about meeting this particular pet. If we hold a pet and the person does not show up, that pet may have missed its chance to find a family during the time it was on reserve.

If you are interested in adopting two pets, there is a $50 fee to reserve a second animal. This fee applies toward the second adoption fee of either the dog or cat. If the adopter does not adopt (or only adopts one pet) this fee is maintained by our shelter as a donation.

On our website, each animal will have an availability date listed under its description. If they do not, you may call us for an estimated arrival day to our Morton Grove facility. This is the date this pet will most likely be ready for a new home. Prior to this time the pets are housed at the Wright-Way Rescue Admissions and Medical Services Campus where they begin to receive necessary medical care prior to adoption.

Please remember that we take only one reservation per pet. Please only set up an appointment if you know you can attend your time, are seriously interested in the pet you are asking us to hold, and please ensure you are ready to add a pet to your home.

Reservations cannot be made for animals already located at Wright-Way Rescue's Adoption Center (5915 Lincoln Avenue).

Make your reservation by calling our Adoption Hotline Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Randall, a 2 year-old Chihuahua mix!

This fun loving dude at first they was a little shy, but he's come out of his shell. He's been with us for a while, and it's time for him to find his forever home in time for the holidays!

Mr. Randall gets along well with other dogs, and he'd would prefer a home with a moderate active family. He also wanted us to tell you he LOVES toys.Randall enjoys taking naps and would love to have his very own bed! Doesn't he sound like he'd fit right in with your family?

You can see more photos of Randall here.

30,000 Pets Saved

Since it's founding in 2003, Wright-Way Rescue has placed nearly 30,000 homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens in loving homes.

5,000 Animals Per Year

The organization saves the lives of nearly 5,000 pets per year and, as a no-kill rescue, pets remain adoptable as long as necessary, and are never euthanized for space reasons.

    $33,000 for Treatment

In 2016 alone, Wright-Way Rescue spent $33,000 to treat dogs that tested positive for heartworms, giving them a second chance.

    129 Special Needs Pets

In 2016, Wright-Way Rescue took on the special needs of over 129 pets. Their care included major orthopedic surgeries, embedded collars, burn victims, severe emaciation cases, broken bones, severe skin infections & mange, and other severe but treatable medical conditions.

    Monthly Numbers

In the month of October, Wright-Way Rescue saved 359 dogs and cats from animal control facilities and owner surrenders.

    99% Save Rate

Wright-Way Rescue boasts a save rate of over 99% in 2016. Our adoption rate is consistently 3-4 times above the national average and is one of the highest in the nation.

    36,400 Miles a Year

Volunteers travel 700 miles weekly, adding up to 676 hours and over 36,400 miles a year, to safely bring adoptable pets to the Chicagoland area from southern Illinois.

    Critical Care Center

Wright-Way Rescue is one of only a few shelters in the nation with a separate medical facility that is dedicated to saving the lives of pets with highly contagious but treatable medical conditions. Instead of turning away pets with illness, we welcome them and provide quality medical care.

    Behind the Scenes

Have you wanted to see the facilities behind the lifesaving operation of Wright-Way Rescue?

Included in our five facilities is Wright-Way Rescue's new Critical Care Center. The center has a 96% save rate of all pets that are accepted through the facility. This helps us save the lives of even more animals!
