Frequently Asked Questions
How can I adopt from Wright-Way Rescue?
There are two ways to adopt from Wright-Way Rescue.
1. Visit our Adoption Center
One of the ways you can adopt a pet from our shelter is by visiting our North Shore Humane Center (Northern IL) or Admissions and Medical Services Campus (Southern IL) during open hours.
2. Reserve A Pet In Advance
Wright-Way Rescue is unique to many shelters because of it’s ability to hold pets for pre-approved adopters who make arrangements to meet them. Approved applicants who are seriously interested in a particular animal may place them on reserve to meet once they become ready for adoption. There is NO FEE to place a reservation. We do however ask that the potential adopter is serious about meeting this particular pet. If we hold a pet and the person does not show up, that pet may have missed its chance to find a family during the time it was on reserve.
If you are interested in adopting two pets, there is a $50 fee to reserve a second animal. This fee applies toward the second adoption fee of either the dog or cat. If the adopter does not adopt (or only adopts one pet) this fee is maintained by our shelter as a donation.
On our website, each animal will have an availability date listed under its description. If they do not, you may call us for an estimated arrival day to our Morton Grove facility. This is the date this pet will most likely be ready for a new home. Prior to this time the pets are housed at the Wright-Way Rescue Admissions and Medical Services Campus where they begin to receive necessary medical care prior to adoption.
Please remember that we take only one reservation per pet. Please only set up an appointment if you know you can attend your time, are seriously interested in the pet you are asking us to hold, and please ensure you are ready to add a pet to your home.
Reservations cannot be made for animals already located at Wright-Way Rescue's Adoption Center (5915 Lincoln Avenue).
How do I get approved to adopt?
You can submit an application to Wright-Way Rescue by filling out either a canine adoption application or a feline adoption application. You may also fill out an application at either of our facilities.
You will typically hear back with your application status within 24-48 hours. It may be longer if you rent your home and we cannot get in touch with your landlord.
Once approved, your application is good for 90 days.
How do I make a reservation for a pet?
Once you have an approved adoption application on file for our adoption program, please call the Wright-Way Rescue Adoption Hotline to place a reservation.
The Adoption Hotline can be reached Monday-Friday from 10AM-5PM at 847-728-5434 option 2.
Please note: An approved application is not a reservation; you must call our Adoption Hotline to place one.
Do animals ever travel from the southern Illinois location to the Morton Grove location?
Yes! We have transports every Thursday that bring adoptable pets to our Morton Grove location.
We have set transport dates for all pets listed on the website. Please call our Adoption Hotline to find out when the furry friend you are interested in will be arriving!
What payment methods do you accept?
Adoption fees are payable with cash or money order only. Our retail store accepts cash and credit or debit.
Will my pet be spayed/neutered?
Wright-Way Rescue spays and neuters all pets 4 months and older, which is the vet-recommended age for altering.
If you adopt a younger puppy or kitten, you are required to show Wright-Way Rescue proof of surgery. To ensure that all adopted animals are spayed or neutered, Wright-Way Rescue will collect a $50 deposit for any unaltered animal that leaves our care. The adopter's deposit will be refunded when proof of alteration surgery is provided to Wright-Way Rescue.
An adopter's $50 deposit may be applied toward a spay or neuter surgery at the Wright-Way Rescue Veterinary Clinic if one chooses. You are financially responsible for your pet's spay or neuter, and it is not included in the adoption fee.
What does your adoption fee include?
