Adoption Counselor Associate

Adoption counselor associates have a hands-on role in the adoption process for the animals in the Wright-Way Rescue adoption program. This is a part-time position with a minimum scheduling requirement of around 30 hours per week (please see hours needed below).

Essential Duties:

  • Facilitate dog and cat adoptions and provide counsel to adopters (going over medical records, adoption contract, and accepting adoption payments from adopters).
  • Welcome potential adopters to Wright-Way Rescue and help them to begin the adoption process.
  • Warmly welcome guests and provide excellent customer service
  • Answer general inquiries regarding Wright-Way Rescue and the adoption process
  • Use point of sale system on organization's iPads
  • Assist with retail sales, and answer adopters' questions about items they may need for their new pet
  • Assist caregivers by maintaining the wellness of the animals
  • Maintain the “Meet & Greet” waitlist of adopters
  • Work in fast paced environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing work
  • Be able to handle various sizes of dogs and cats

Minimum Scheduling Requirements - Required Hours:

Thursday: 1:00-8:30 PM
Friday: 11:30 AM-8:30 PM
Saturday: 10:30 AM-5:00 PM
Sunday: 10:45 AM-5:00 PM

Client Services Specialist

At Wright-Way Rescue, a nonprofit and no-kill animal rescue, our Client Services Specialists assist with the scheduling and recording of all adoption related administrative duties.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities include:

  • Screen incoming applications within the allotted time and respond promptly to those interested in adoption.
  • Help match adopters with the correct pet for their home.
  • Assist with scheduling adoption appointments.
  • Answer incoming calls and respond to phone message, while always providing friendly and positive customer service.
  • Clean and provide basic care for ConnectUS animals as instructed.
  • Be responsible for all paperwork related to adoption records - prepare records for adoption floor.
  • Assist with regular inventory of office supplies.
  • Assist with programs as assigned IE Birthday parties, special events, etc.
  • Perform landlord authorization calls and record results.
  • Clean and maintain front lobby and main office.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience with: Microsoft Office (required), PetPoint (preferred), and Google Apps.
  • Be capable of working independently, with no direct supervision at times.
  • Must be able to work with all dogs (all breeds) and cats, including those with health concerns/conditions and all sizes and energy levels.
  • Resourceful, roll up the sleeves attitude. The successful candidate must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently and enthusiastically demonstrate flexibility to persist until goals are achieved.
  • Knowledgeable of breeds, care giving, and characteristics of animals.
  • Ability to work some evening and weekends.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations and effective communicator/writer.
  • Must have a strong understanding of dog body language or ability to learn.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to routinely lift 30 pounds.
  • Long exposure on a daily basis to dogs of all temperaments, sizes and medical conditions.
  • Ability to effectively interact with and handle all animals including cats and dogs.
  • Manual dexterity for keyboarding and computer work.

Dog Trainer

Wright-Way Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue, is looking for an experienced dog trainer to lead its training program. All applicants should have group instruction experience in a professional capacity, such as at a shelter, kennel, or training facility.

Wright-Way is seeking an individual that can help with internal training needs and behavior modification, temperament testing, and work directly with adopters to resolve post-adoption behavioral challenges.

The Wright-Way Rescue trainer will be responsible for:

  • Leading and scheduling weekly training classes
  • Plan and run training seminars
  • Answer training questions from Wright-Way adopters
  • Process payment for classes
  • Encourage training as a means of shelter dog retention
  • Encourage retail sales of appropriate training equipment
  • Work with Director of Marketing to help promote program
  • Write monthly training e-newsletter to help educate dog owners

Community Relations Coordinator - Volunteer


Essential Duties:

  • Act as event coordinator for outside adoption events and adoption awareness events, while also maintaining partnerships with members in the community.
  • Act as event lead for events hosted by Wright-Way Rescue, including birthday parties, volunteer orientations, school tours, team building, etc.
  • Screen volunteer applications and schedule volunteer training sessions.
  • Maintain volunteer program schedule for North Shore Humane Center and outside community events.
  • Ensure volunteers are staffed and supervised.
  • Work closely with Wright-Way Rescue management, staff, and volunteers.
  • Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and recommend and implement changes as appropriate.
  • Serve as a community liaison to enhance the participation in all Wright-Way Rescue services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience / Requirements:

  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Flexible schedule; some nights and weekends needed 
  • Previous work experience in event planning or animal welfare preferred
  • Have the verbal ability to effectively express ideas and views for communication with adopters, donors, event attendees, etc.
  • Have organizational ability to develop, coordinate and maintain an activities schedule.
  • Have flexibility to adjust to changing conditions and the various details of the job.
